Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars
Chocolate pecan pie bars are a decadent dessert that combines the rich flavors of a traditional pecan pie with the added indulgence of chocolate, baked over a cinnamon shortbread crust and sliced into convenient squares. To top it off, these chocolate pecan pie bars are made without corn syrup!

What are Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars?
Chocolate pecan pie bars are a layered dessert bar with a base of shortbread and topped with chocolate pecan pie filling. The flavor profile reminds me of a snickers bar. Yum!
The crust: a shortbread layer consists of butter, brown sugar, flour, vanilla, and cinnamon.
The filling: The chocolate pecan pie layer consists of pecans, semi-sweet chocolate chips, eggs, maple syrup, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and black pepper.
Dessert bars are always a big hit on the thanksgiving menu, and believe me when I say these might be the best thanksgiving dessert I have ever made.
Recipe Tips for Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars
Placing foil or an oven safe cover of some kind over the pan halfway through the bake is crucial for an even bake and will keep the pecans from burning, which can happen quickly. You don’t need to wrap the foil over the top, simply place a piece lightly over the top, so all four sides are still open and the dessert can ventilate as it bakes.
Recipe Variations for Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars
You can omit the chocolate to make these more like a traditional pecan pie flavor. Or try adding a little bourbon to the egg mixture to add a little extra flavor!
Can you substitute corn syrup for maple syrup in this recipe?
The answer is yes you can! You can swap out the maple syrup for corn syrup at a 1:1 ratio, just be aware that maple syrup has a rich maple flavor, so I recommend substituting the maple syrup with dark corn syrup if you can.
How to Store Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars
Store chocolate pecan pie bars at room temperature in an air tight container for up to two days, or store in the refrigerator for up to five days. If stored in the refrigerator, let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes, or pop in the microwave for five to ten seconds to warm to room temperature.
You can also make chocolate pecan pie bars in advance and freeze them easily. Just place (fully baked and cooled) in an air tight freezer container and store in the freezer for up to three months. Remove from the freezer and place in the refrigerator 24 hours prior to serving.
