What is a Cranberry Margarita?

A cranberry margarita is a non traditional twist on the classic lime margarita. The main flavor components are cranberry and lime, and their tartness is balanced out with the sweetness of triple sec and simple syrup.

I typically think of a margarita as a warm weather drink and I have to admit it is a favorite of mine. This cranberry version is the perfect excuse to serve margaritas in the middle of December.

Recipe Tips

  • Chill glasses in the freezer. For frozen drinks, this will help the drink stay cold longer and prevent the ice from melting quickly.

  • Make a batch of this cocktail to keep on hand or bring to a party. Use the servings calculator on the recipe card below to multiply the ingredient amounts to meet your serving needs. Then mix the liquid portion before hand and blend it with ice when you are ready to serve it.

Recipe Variations

I love this cocktail just as much served over ice instead of blended! Simply skip the step where you add the liquids to a blender with ice and instead add all ingredients to a shaker (including some ice) and shake for 10 - 15 seconds. Then add cubed ice to a tumbler glass and pour the margarita mixture over the ice.

What kind of glass should I use to serve this cocktail?

I recommend serving blended margaritas in a classic margarita glass with a stem. If you don’t love a stem (can be easy to nock over if you are clumsy like ME), I just discovered that they make margarita glasses that still have the classic shape of a margarita glass but they are stemless. These might find their way onto my christmas list this year…

If you decide to serve it on the rocks (over ice) then I recommend serving with tumbler glasses or colins glasses.
